Love Itself

Mary, mother of
God-in-the-flesh as Jesus—
What was it like to hold
the Almighty in the form of a babe,
so powerless?

Did you hold and inspect
the Great I Am’s tiny hand?

Did you caress the soft skin
of the Ruler of all the land?

Did you pull the Breath of Life close
to breathe in the newborn smell?

Did you just sit and gaze
at Yahweh’s chest as it rose and fell?

Did you have motherly concern
over the Creator’s vulnerable state of health?

What was it like?
How did it feel …
To so love …
